What are the tech specs of the hand washing station?

It is a PolyJohn Bravo with 2 sink stations, 62 inches tall, 26.5 inches wide and 21.5 inches deep. It holds 22 gallons of fresh water and 24 gallons of gray water, which gives about 350 hand washes per fill. Foot pumps run the water, so no hands touch a tap.

How many uses does one hand washing station handle?

About 350 hand washes on one 22-gallon fill. Two people can wash at the same time, one at each side. For a 4-hour party of 100 guests, 1 station usually lasts the event. Multi-day events and busy food lines may need a refill visit, quoted before we come.

Soap and paper towels often run out before the water does at busy events. If you expect heavy use, ask for extra towel and soap stock on the call.

How many hand washing stations do I need?

Plan on 1 two-station hand washing station for every 4 toilets, rounded up. So 1 to 4 toilets need 1 station, and 5 to 8 toilets need 2. If you choose deluxe flushing units with built-in sinks, you may not need separate stations. Add stations near food lines.

Do jobsites need hand washing stations under OSHA?

Yes. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires employers on construction sites to provide adequate washing facilities for employees exposed to paints, coatings, herbicides, insecticides or other harmful contaminants. Washing facilities must be near the worksite and let workers remove those substances. One Bravo gives a crew 2 sinks with soap and towels.

Read the rule on OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. Many contractors add a station even when not required, because crews eat lunch on site.

Jobsite stations on a 28-day rental can be refilled on the weekly service visit. See our jobsite toilet guide for crew sizing under Table D-1.

What about hand washing for food vendors at events?

Food vendors need their own temporary food permit, and the health inspector sets the hand washing rules. In Plano city limits, the City of Plano handles temporary food events and asks vendors to apply at least 10 days ahead. In unincorporated Collin County, Collin County issues temporary event food permits.

Ask your inspector what hand washing setup the booth needs. Guest hand wash stations by the restrooms are a separate thing from a vendor's booth sink. This is not legal advice.

How are hand washing stations restocked?

Every station arrives with 22 gallons of fresh water, soap and paper towels, which is usually enough for a weekend event. On 28-day rentals, the service visit drains gray water, refills fresh water, and restocks soap and towels. Extra refill visits are available Monday through Saturday, quoted before they are scheduled.

Is a hand washing station the right add-on?

Yes, when guests or crews need soap and running water, food is served, or kids are present. Standard porta potties have hand sanitizer only. The trade-offs: the station takes about 26.5 by 21.5 inches of extra space and needs refills after about 350 uses.

We reviewed 185 recorded calls from people renting porta potties in 2026 (172 reached a live conversation). 12% of callers (20 of 172) asked for handwashing, and quotes ran from about a $75 add-on to about $230 standalone. Prices from the calls are what callers were quoted in the calls we reviewed; your itemized quote from us is the price you pay.

Questions about hand wash stations

Can I rent just a hand wash station without a toilet?
Yes. Some customers rent a station alone for a food booth line, a school field day or a jobsite with indoor toilets.
Does the hand sink need a hose hookup?
No. The Bravo carries 22 gallons of fresh water and runs on foot pumps. No hose or power is needed.
Is the water in the hand wash station heated?
No. The Bravo uses unheated fresh water. Soap and paper towels are stocked.
Where does the dirty water from the sink go?
Used water drains into the Bravo's 24-gallon gray water tank. We pump the tank out at pickup or on a service visit.
Do I need a sink if the porta johns have sanitizer?
Not always. Sanitizer works for short parties. Add a sink when food is served, kids are present, or hands get dirty, like on a jobsite.
