How many job site toilets does OSHA require?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c) Table D-1 sets the minimum. A crew of 20 or fewer workers needs 1 toilet. A crew over 20 needs 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. A crew of 200 or more needs 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers. Round up.
Our standard unit has both a toilet seat and a urinal, so one unit covers one line of the table. Count your peak crew, not your average crew. Subs on site count too.
| Workers on site | OSHA Table D-1 rule | Worked example | Standard units |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 or fewer | 1 toilet | 12-person framing crew | 1 |
| 21 to 199 | 1 toilet seat + 1 urinal per 40 workers | 35 workers: 35 ÷ 40 = 0.9, round up | 1 |
| 21 to 199 | 1 toilet seat + 1 urinal per 40 workers | 85 workers: 85 ÷ 40 = 2.1, round up | 3 |
| 21 to 199 | 1 toilet seat + 1 urinal per 40 workers | 160 workers: 160 ÷ 40 = 4 | 4 |
| 200 or more | 1 toilet seat + 1 urinal per 50 workers | 240 workers: 240 ÷ 50 = 4.8, round up | 5 |
Table D-1 is a minimum. Big crews fill a 60-gallon tank fast, so many supers add a unit or a second service day. Table D-1 does not apply to mobile crews that have a vehicle ready to reach nearby toilets (1926.51(c)(4)). Ask your safety lead which rule fits your job. This is not legal advice.

Do I need a hand wash station on a construction site?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities near the work when crews apply paint, coatings, herbicides or insecticides, or handle other harmful contaminants. A two-station hand wash sink holds 22 gallons of fresh water and gives about 350 uses per fill. Many supers add one sink for every few toilets anyway.
Our hand wash station is a PolyJohn Bravo. It has foot pumps, two soap dispensers and paper towels. Per the PolyJohn Bravo specs, it holds 22 gallons of fresh water and 24 gallons of gray water.
Painters, drywall finishers and landscapers are the crews who ask most. Set the sink beside the toilets so workers use it. We refill the sink on the same weekly service visit.
What happens on weekly jobsite service?
Every 28-day jobsite rental includes 1 service visit per week. The driver pumps out the 60-gallon tank, cleans and sanitizes the surfaces, restocks toilet paper and hand sanitizer, and refills the blue deodorizer. Crews of 30 or more often need a second visit each week, which we quote per visit first.
Service days run on a set route. If the gate is locked on service day, the unit gets skipped. Leave a code or key with us when you book.
| Service step | What the driver does |
|---|---|
| Pump out | Empties the waste tank with a vacuum hose |
| Clean | Wipes and sanitizes the seat, urinal, walls and floor |
| Restock | Adds toilet paper and refills hand sanitizer |
| Recharge | Adds fresh water and deodorizer to the tank |
Need an extra visit before an inspection or a big pour day? Extra service visits are available Monday through Saturday, quoted before they are scheduled.

Call (972) 812-6200Get quoteHow does 28-day billing work for contractors?
Jobsite toilets bill on a 28-day cycle, not a calendar month. The first cycle includes delivery, and later cycles cost less. Pickup is not automatic. Call or text (972) 812-6200 to request pickup, and billing stops the day you ask. Contractors can apply for a business account.
Each jobsite address is a separate order. That gives every job its own cycle dates and its own invoice, so your job costing stays clean. We reviewed 185 recorded calls from people renting porta potties in 2026 (172 reached a live conversation). Long-term renters were most confused by 28-day billing and by pickup not being automatic. We put both on the quote.
| Billing item | How it works |
|---|---|
| Cycle length | 28 days, which matches 4 weekly service visits |
| First cycle | Includes delivery |
| Later cycles | Lower rate, billed every 28 days |
| Pickup | Request it by phone or text; billing stops that day |
| Payment | Card by invoice link, or apply for a business account |
| Tax-exempt jobs | Send a valid Texas sales tax exemption certificate before you pay |
See our 28-day billing guide for how cycles add up over a long build.
Should the job site toilet go near the slab or by the street?
On private property, on firm and level ground, within about 15 feet of where a service truck can park. Near the street makes weekly service easy. Near the slab saves crew walking time. Most supers pick a spot between the two, clear of the driveway approach and concrete trucks.
A unit in a public street or right-of-way may need city approval. We set units on the lot by default.
| Spot | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| By the street, inside the lot line | Easy service, easy pickup | Longer walk for the crew |
| Near the slab | Short walk | Gets in the way of forms, pours and grading |
| Side yard or back of lot | Out of sight | Truck access; Blackland clay turns to mud after rain |
Ask for the free hasp and padlock if the lot is open to the public. Lock the unit at night so only your crew uses it.

How do builders handle toilets in a new-build subdivision?
Builders in a new subdivision usually place 1 toilet per active lot or 1 shared unit per small group of lots. Each address you give us is a separate order with its own 28-day cycle. When a house is done, request pickup or ask us to move the unit to the next lot.
Some builders, HOAs and cities set their own rules on toilets per lot. Ask your superintendent or the permit office before you share units across lots.
- Give us the lot number and street, plus a pin drop if the street has no addresses yet.
- Mark the spot with a cone or flag. You do not need to be on site.
- Moving a unit to the next lot is quoted before we do it.

Can roofers and remodelers rent a job site toilet for a few days?
Yes. Roofers, painters and remodelers can keep a unit on site for a day up to 1 week at a flat rate per drop-off and pickup. It arrives cleaned and stocked. A short job under 7 days usually needs no service visit, and you skip the 28-day cycle.
Short jobs on a home usually go in the driveway or side yard. The homeowner's HOA may have rules on visible items, so check before day one.
In the calls we reviewed, 15% of live conversations (25 of 172) came from construction jobsites.
| Job | Typical length | Rental type |
|---|---|---|
| Roof tear-off and replace | 1 to 3 days | Short rental, flat rate |
| Kitchen or bath remodel | 2 to 8 weeks | 28-day cycle with weekly service |
| Exterior paint | 3 days to 1 week | Short rental, flat rate |
| Fence or concrete flatwork | 2 to 5 days | Short rental, or a towable unit if you move often |
Do you rent towable porta potties for crews that move?
Yes. Trailer-mounted units fit crews that move every day, like fence, utility, road and landscape crews. The crew hitches the trailer and pulls the toilet to the next site, so there is no relocation trip. Each towable unit still gets 1 pump-out per week. We confirm hitch needs on your quote.

A towable unit saves you a relocation trip every time the crew moves. Tell us where the trailer will park on service day so the driver can find it.
